Government Medical College Baramulla Inaugurates Bacteriology Section in the Department of Microbiology

Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla marked another milestone in its journey towards providing advanced healthcare facilities to the people of North Kashmir by inaugurating the Bacteriology Section in the Department of Microbiology. The momentous inauguration was led by the Principal, Dr (prof) Ruby Reshi.

The event witnessed the presence of other dignitaries, including Medical Superintendent Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, and Dr Junaid Ahmad, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Microbiology, along with teaching and technical staff of the department.

Highlighting the significance of the newly established bacteriology section, Principal Dr (Prof) Ruby Reshi emphasized GMC Baramulla's crucial role in delivering state-of-the-art healthcare services to the region's residents. With the addition of the bacteriology section, patients no longer need to travel to Srinagar for Blood, Urine, Pus, or other culture tests.

Dr Junaid Ahmad, Head of the Department, provided insights into the range of tests to be offered in the bacteriology section, including blood/cerebrospinal fluid cultures, pus and other body fluid cultures, and urine cultures.

Dr Junaid Ahmad further emphasized the importance of surveillance data, stating, "The availability of surveillance data will help in making hospital antibiograms, which, in turn, will aid in formulating the hospital antibiotic policy, minimizing antimicrobial resistance by ensuring the judicious use of antimicrobial agents."

Congratulating the Department of Microbiology on this initiative, The Principal also stressed the significance of proper segregation and disposal of biomedical waste.
