IPR Workshop held at IUST
Awantipora, July 22 (RNA) : A one-day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was conducted at Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Islamic University of Science and Technology, with the objective to make the youth aware about the IPR, its benefits and relevance in entrepreneurship and innovation. The IPR Awareness Workshop was organized by CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in association with Skill Development Initiative of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu & IIIM-Technology Business Incubator as part of celebrations of National Intellectual Property Festival.
Dr Kancherla Prasad, Sr. Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, delivered the keynote address and informed the participants about the importance of such conferences to promote knowledge sharing, innovation and sensitize about intellectual property rights. He shared the importance of various types of IPRs including Patents, Trade Marks, Trade Secrets, Copy Rights, Design Rights & Geographical Indication (G.I). He explained how Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) play a crucial role in protecting and incentivizing innovation and creativity in various fields. He discussed the significant contribution of IPRs to economic growth by fostering innovation and attracting investment. He briefed how IPRs safeguard the rights of innovators/creators, allowing them to have control over the use, reproduction, and distribution of their inventions/creations.
Prof. Manzoor Malik, Dean Academic Affairs IUST, highlighted the importance of such workshops for the faculty and students. He spoke about how innovation and entrepreneurship is one of the focus areas of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, wherein CIED – IUST Foundation plays a pivotal role. Dr. Parvez A. Mir, CEO CIED IUST Foundation, encouraged the students to look for innovations wherein CIED would provide the necessary support to convert the idea into a prototype. He advised them to upload innovative ideas on YUKTI-National Innovation Repository of MoE for protecting their intellectual property rights.
Er. Ankush Varma, Coordinator, Technology Business Incubator threw light on how IPRs are important for startups and entrepreneurs to safeguard their business ideas. He also briefed the audience about the role of incubators in general and IIIM – TBI in particular regarding building a startup movement in Jammu & Kashmir and beyond. Dr. Asifa Baba, Dean Students IUST, conducted the proceedings and presented the vote of thanks. She congratulated all the members of the organizing committee for the successful conduct of the event.
