 ‘Peak electricity demand at ‘Power Station Bus Bar likely to increase by 18% during 2026-27’

Srinagar, Dec 04 (KNO): In Jammu and Kashmir, Peak Electricity Demand at ‘Power Station Bus Bar is likely to increase by over 18 percent’ during 2026-27’.


According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a Government of India (GoI) survey has stated that peak electricity demand (in MW) at Power Station Bus Bar in Jammu and Kashmir during 2021-22 was 3000 MWs.


However, the report suggests that in 2026-27, there will be a peak electricity demand of 3566 MWs at Power Station Bus Bar in J&K which amounts to more than 18.86 percent. According to the report, by 2026-27 there will be a requirement of additional 566 MWs peak electricity demand at Power Station Bus Bar.


Principal Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD) H Rajesh Prasad said that he has no information about the matter. “We have not made any assessment as to how much of demand and power will be required in coming years or during the peak demand of the ongoing winter,” Prasad said.


Speaking about the peak demand of power, the principal secretary said that “In last last year, in order to test our capacity of supplying the power, we ran a trial of one day wherein over 3050 MW were delivered as per the requirements.”—(KNO)
