Weather Advisory issued by IMD for Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas from Feb 17 to 21



Srinagar Feb 15 (ANR) : A moderate to intense Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas from February 17 (night) to 21 (forenoon), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).


Under the influence of this system, widespread light to moderate rain or snow is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, with heavy snowfall over some higher reaches, with the main activity occurring between February 18 and 20.


The IMD has issued a weather advisory, warning that the system is likely to cause heavy rain or snow over the Pirpanjal Range of the Jammu Division and the higher reaches of the Kashmir Division (Anantnag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Shopian, Pir Ki Gali, Gulmarg, Sonamarg-Zojila axis, Bandipora-Razdan Pass and Kupwara-Sadhna pass).


The probable impacts of the system include:


(1) : Disruption of surface and air transport, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other major roads in the middle and higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

(II) : Travelers and tourists are advised to plan accordingly in view of the inclement weather.

 (III) : People in snow-bound areas are advised to avoid venturing into slopes and avalanche-prone areas.

 (IV) : Farmers are advised to withhold irrigation, fertilizer and chemical spraying activities during the above period.
