Anantnag Aug 29 : (ANR) The Anantnag district administration has issued a precautionary advisory to prevent potential flooding. The advisory comes in response to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, which predicts moderate to heavy rainfall in the region.
There is a heightened risk of cloudbursts due to the anticipated rainfall, which could lead to a sudden rise in the water levels of the Jhelum River and its tributaries. To mitigate any potential risks, the district administration has directed various departments to take immediate action.
The Flood Control Division, Anantnag, has been instructed to activate their control room and ensure that all resources are ready to address any flood-related emergencies. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Civil Defense Anantnag have also been advised to activate their control rooms and prepare their teams for deployment.
Additionally, the Public Works Department (PWD), KPCDL, and Hydraulic Circle Anantnag have been asked to activate their respective control rooms and keep their personnel and machinery on standby.
To protect the public, all Tehsildars have been directed to advise residents within their jurisdictions to avoid going near the Nallahs and the banks of the Jhelum River and its tributaries due to the potential for sudden rises in water levels.
The district administration has also provided emergency helpline numbers for the public to use in case of any urgent situations. The general helpline numbers are 112 (EOC), 01932-222870 (PCR), and 01932-295265 (SDRF Control Room).
